Loose stool and diarrhea are chief complaints for many of my patients who are on chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted drugs like Verzenio, Kisqali, or Lynparza. For some patients, it can be quite debilitating. If this is something you’re struggling with, here’s an all-natural remedy that can help.
Psyllium husk is an excellent dietary supplement to improve digestion and rectify loose stool and diarrhea. It can also be used for constipation since it’s a bulking fiber. Psyllium husk works by binding to digested food in the colon to solidify a formed bowel movement. The recommended daily dose varies from person to person.
I generally recommend starting with 1 tbsp at night before bed. As mentioned, it’s a bullying fiber, so once mixed with fluid, it will start to expand. It’s important to drink this as soon as you mix it with fluid and then follow up with additional water so that it moves all the way down the digestive tract.
I find this easiest to take by mixing 3 oz of organic apple juice, with 3 oz of water, and then mixing in 1 tbsp of psyllium husk. If this solidifies the consistency of your stool, stay on this dose. If you still experience loose stool or diarrhea in the morning, take an additional dose. The following evening, increase your dose to 2 tbsp and take that dose until your condition resolves.
The brand of psyllium I like is called “Organic India Psyllium Whole Husk Fiber.”
It’s just pure psyllium husk and does not contain any fillers or other ingredients. It’s certified organic, keto, paleo, vegan, and gluten-free.
I hope this information is helpful! Here’s a link to the product I recommend, Organic India Psyllium Whole Husk Fiber.
