Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant that is naturally made in the body and is also found in foods. It can help to prevent and treat chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling, pain, and loss of sensation) in the hands and feet. Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy is most commonly experienced by those receiving platinum and taxane based treatments.
